This is the build page for our custom-built 2011-style 5 inch full-size pistol in the caliber of your choosing (THE 1911DW, DOUBLE-WIDE). We will custom build your 1911DW to your liking, using the various quality manufactures we use and trust.
This personalized build starts with an AB Prototype full-size 2011-style frame (with full tactical rail) and Cheely E2 grip designed with performance and competition in mind. The frame rails are CNC machined and hand-fitted to a quality Atlas slide for ultimate fit and finish. The Kart Precision (or KKM, depending on availability and configuration) barrel in a caliber of your choosing (bull barrel only) is hand-fitted to your slide for repeatable lockup and accuracy.
Internal components consist of quality machined parts from various US manufacturers including Dawson Precision, Cheely Custom Gunworks, Staccato (STI), Atlas, Kart, KKM, Extreme Engineering, EGW and 10-8. (No MIM parts!).
Semi-auto, 5" barrel, quality steel slide with AB Prototype slide serrations and optic plate system (Atlas RDS). Various coatings are available as selectable options, more than two colors will require an additional fee (+$150/color). All serial numbers start with "ABP" prefix.
Comes with 3 Factory Atlas magazines (17rd in 9mm) in your caliber selection (45 magazines will be Checkmate or similar depending on availability).
APPROXIMATE WEIGHTS:
- 1911DW 9mm w/optic, ventilator port, aluminum grip, magwell and empty 17rd magazine is approx. 43oz.
- 1911DW 9mm w/optic, ventilator port, stainless steel grip, magwell and empty 17rd magazine is approx. 54oz.
Brand new with AB Prototype 1 year warranty. This is not legal for sale in CA and not on the handgun roster. It is not available for sale in California unless you are law enforcement.
PLEASE NOTE: Blue PVD is not as wear-resistant as DLC, TiN (titanium nitride) or Stainless PVD coating and could wear quickly in high contact areas such as barrels and slides. Blue PVD is also sensitive to fingerprints and oils. Exact blue coloring will vary. Color will transition from Blue, Purple, Bronze, Gold. Thickness is approximately 1-5 microns (.00004"-.0002"). Coating wear is not covered under warranty.
Includes: 1 AB Prototype 1911DW Custom, 3 Atlas magazines, lock, lube and SKB Case with Custom-Fitted Foam. Factory test-fired for function and operation. Grease, brass, oil will be present. Pistol is NEW. OPTICS ARE NOT INCLUDED UNLESS OPTIC IS ORDERED WITH PISTOL. MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL TUNING FOR NON-STANDARD AMMUNITION LOADS.

AB Prototype Double wide
I want to start off by saying I am a very detail oriented person! I received this pistol 2 weeks ago and finally got around to mounting a dot and going out to the range and putting approximately 200 rounds through it. Initial impressions were honestly very good with this pistol so I could not wait to shoot it. I’ll start from the bottom to the top, to start off the cheely grip is mated very nicely to the frame with no wiggle and trigger fit is tight with very little wobble left to right and up and down. Beaver tail blending to the frame was well done down at the grip with one small hotspot or “ridge” on the frame to the tail. Trigger job was done very well with a clean two stage feel with a crisp wall and positive reset. Onto the safeties, atlas safeties were fitted well with a very positive detent upon disengagement but rather “mushy or soft” on re-engagement resulting in a feel that is not consistent going both ways. Barrel fit is exceptional with no real movement at the crown or hood. Disconnector ramp was very smooth with a great polish resulting in a fairly silky action. Ejector fit to the slide is decent but leaves more to be desired. Extractor tune and fitment was done exceptionally well. Onto one of my main gripes is the slide to frame fitment, although the action is very smooth there is a good bit of play side to side and up and down. Not a big deal to some, but for others it’s rather bothersome like myself. I have shot higher round count (8k+) staccato xc’s with the same slide to frame fitment as this brand new gun. Overall, during the first range trip the pistol performed excellently with absolutely no malfunctions and was well balanced with the steel grip I opted for. Return to zero and slide speed is well done for a 5” gun and made transitions very pleasant and follow up shots easy. With all that said I would definitely recommend AB prototype to anyone looking for an xc level of pistol and company communication with consumer was quick and easy!

Custom 1911DW
Build quality was super. I got a stainless gun with blue cheely aggressive grip and the consensus amongst gun and non gun enthusiasts is it’s a work of art. Only con is that the safety engages very well when flicking off, but when flicking it on there’s a little mush and not as tactile of a feel. However, after I’ve put a couple hundred rounds through it, the safety seems to have “broken in” and is tactile both ways. For a full steel 2011, and the level of customization you receive, you can’t go wrong here.

Ab prototype d wide
got my d wide in copper color n black. Great color combo smooth action n a crisp 2 to 21/2 lb trigger pull mines git the inline port with a chunk port up front I like these guns from an proto type I’m thinking about getting the 4.25 next thank ab for a great pistol n excellent price

AB Prototype 1911 DW
I must say.. a friend of mine recommended AB Prototype to me.. I ordered 12 weeks ago . The website was straightforward.. I spoke with Alex the owner to get a special type of porting added to my build.. they accommodated and built the gun exactly as I requested. The fit finish and function of the pistol is top-notch... the list of parts used to build a gun is the whose who in the 2011 marketplace... I would definitely recommend AB Prototype. And I would definitely buy from them again..

Custom 1911dw w/ ventilator port
Amazed at the value for this piece. AB uses all the best parts and fits them nicely. I ran a few hundred rounds through it at the range and had no issues.
